Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does my skater need to participate?
A: Skaters will be required to have their own skates and their own helmets. If you believe your player will move into Learning to play hockey then buying an appropriate hockey helmet, hockey pants and skates can be used for Learn to Play hockey as well.
Skates can be purchased from the following:
Kiddles Sports: 258 Market Square Ct, Lake Forest IL 60045
Fred's Pro Shop: 50 Lakeview Pkwy Ste 106, Vernon Hills IL 60061
Pure Hockey: 2751 Pfingsten Rd, Glenview IL 60026
Helmets:
Skaters can use hockey, bicycle, or ski/snowboard helmets
Q: What would you recommend skaters wear on the ice?
A: Remember that it's cold inside the rink, we recommend skaters wear a winter jacket and winter gloves. You can put your player in snow pants as well, this won't restrict skating.
Some skaters will wear hockey pants (padded shorts for hockey) and knee pads. Hockey pants are padded and will help with falling backwards on the skaters rear or hip. Some skaters also elect to wear knee pads. Knee pads can be hockey knee pads or rollerblade/skateboard knee pads.

Q: How young of skaters have you had in the program?
A: There have been skaters as young as 18 months on the ice. Young skaters will use chairs at first so they can learn the basics and gain confidence.
We do allow and encourage parents to come on the ice. Parents can walk on the ice or skate themselves. We do ask that you know the basics of skating before coming on the ice skating as a parent.
Each skater is different and we want to make everyone as comfortable as possible. Some skaters need parents on the ice at first. However, some are good to go without parents the first time they step on the ice.
